SACRAMENT OF HEALING

Confession

ABOUT RECONCILIATION

Reconnect
with His love

We all carry things — regrets, guilt, burdens we wish we could lay down. The Sacrament of Reconciliation, sometimes called Confession, is a sacred space to do just that.

It’s not about shame or punishment. It’s about healing. It’s a moment to be completely honest before God, speak what’s on your heart, and hear the words: You are forgiven. Through the quiet presence of a priest, Catholics believe that Jesus Himself offers mercy, a fresh start, and peace.

You don’t have to be perfect. You don’t have to have all the answers. Just come with a willing heart — and discover a love that never stops reaching for you.

QUICK GUIDE

How to make a confession

Take a few quiet moments to reflect on your life. Where have I fallen short in love of God, others, or myself? What habits or actions do I need to let go of? This is called an examination of conscience — you can use a guide to help if needed.

Haven’t been in a while? Don’t worry — just tell the priest, and he’ll gently guide you through it.

Make your confession
Begin with the Sign of the Cross and say:
"Bless me, Father, for I have sinned. It has been [length of time] since my last confession."

Then, honestly share your sins. Be sincere and don’t worry about saying things “perfectly.”

Receive Guidance & Penance
The priest may offer words of encouragement and suggest a prayer or action (called a penance) to help you grow in faith and healing.

Pray the Act of Contrition
This is a short prayer expressing sorrow for sin. You can say it in your own words or use the traditional version (the priest can help you if you forget)

Receive Absolution
The priest will pray words of absolution — this is when your sins are forgiven through the power of Christ. Listen to those words of mercy.

Go in peace & Do your penance
Take a moment to thank God. Then, carry out your penance and live renewed in His grace.
