ABOUT FIRST COMMUNION

Receiving the Real Presence

The Eucharist is the living remembrance of the Last Supper, when Jesus shared bread and wine with his Apostles the night before his death. In that sacred moment, He revealed how His presence would remain with us forever—through the breaking of the bread and the sharing of the cup, saying, "Do this in memory of me."

Since then, the Church has celebrated this miracle daily. During Mass, through the words of the priest, Jesus becomes truly present in the bread and wine. The Eucharist is a sacred meal of love, a divine gift in which Jesus gives Himself fully to us.

It is through the Eucharist that the Church receives life, and the baptized are strengthened to love as Jesus loved, bringing His peace, joy, and light to the world.

By receiving First Communion, your child enters into a deep and personal relationship with Jesus, experiencing His love in the most profound and life-giving way.

QUICK GUIDE

Choosing the godparent

Their role: Accepting to sponsor a child is to accept a great responsibility. In fact, the chosen godfather and godmother commit themselves to support your child’s faith development, not only during the baptismal preparation but also throughout the preparations for his/her First Communion, profession of faith and Confirmation: a crucial role throughout the very early stages of your child’s Christian life. You must, therefore, take the time to choose this faithful person wisely; they should share your personal and spiritual values. Make this a beautiful lifelong gift to your child!

Godparents should be:

  • at least 16 years old
  • baptized
  • confirmed
  • has received the Eucharist (First Communion)

It is, therefore, necessary to provide a baptismal certificate with annotation of Confirmation to be able to become a godmother or godfather.
